Comme d'Api

Cumano x Darco

Comme d’Api is a son of the world-famous Cumano (Cassini I x Landgraf I). Under Jos Lansink, this impressive grey stallion became World Champion in Aachen in 2006 in legendary fashion. He also competed twice in the Olympic Games, won the Grand Prix of Spruce Meadows in Calgary, and claimed silver at the European Championships in Mannheim. Despite having a relatively small number of offspring, no fewer than 41 of his progeny compete at the 1.60m level or higher—an outstanding achievement!

One of those offspring is Comme d’Api. Under the saddle of German top rider Daniel Deusser, he competed at the highest level, standing out with his fantastic mentality, rideability, and excellent technique. After his career with Deusser, he continued to achieve success with multiple junior riders, further underlining his willingness to work and exceptional character.

During his sport career, Comme d’Api was only sporadically used for breeding. However, despite the limited number of coverings, he has already produced a significant number of successful sport horses. The most notable of these is Hello Mr. President, ridden by Scott Brash, who was bred from a pony dam! This outstanding horse won 1.55m classes in Stockholm and Doha and placed second in St. Tropez and London.

Other remarkable offspring of Comme d’Api include the 1.50m jumper Comme Onze Z and the 1.45m horses Wedding Crasher, Chicago EE Z, and Cima di Castella B Z. From his younger generation, born after his sport career, several stallions have already been approved, such as TinTin van de Bisschop, Ube van de Bisschop, and Ufano Prinseveld. At the World Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken, the five-year-old Top Gun van de Bisschop, ridden by Sophie Richards, made a strong impression. He jumped clear rounds throughout the competition and was one of the most talked-about horses of the championship.

Given Comme d’Api’s dam line and bloodlines, it is no surprise that he is a top sire. Alongside the well-documented influence of Cumano, we see another legendary stallion as his dam’s sire: Darco. A longtime international competitor with Ludo Philippaerts, Darco became a foundation sire for Belgian showjumping breeding, producing top horses such as Sapphire, Vonka A, Winningmood van de Arenberg, Iron Man van de Padenborre, and Chopin van de Broy.

Comme d’Api’s dam also produced a 1.40m jumper and two 1.30m horses, while further in the dam line, we see a 1.55m, a 1.50m, and two 1.40m performers.

With his proven genetics, outstanding sport career, and strong ability to pass on his qualities, Comme d’Api is a valuable choice for breeders aiming to produce modern, talented, and willing showjumpers.
